The 3 Most Potent Words
"'Yes, I will' - three of the most potent words in our language. Whether spoken quietly, loudly or silently, those three words have propelled more people to success and have been responsible for more human achievement than all other words in the English language combined." - from The Fine Art of Friendship, by Ted W. EngstromI have a penchant for action. Yes, I will implies action, a presumed accomplishment. Yes, I can is a totally different statement. I can, but will I?
Whether you say those words aloud or under your breath says alot about your integrity. Sure, I can meet you for lunch (but if a better offer comes along, I'll probably cancel) Sure, I'd like to have more sales and I can look into developing a sales plan, but when I spend all day with a fire extinguisher in my hand, I have no more energy left to develop a sales plan, let alone, execute it.
Let's face it, none of us wants to be on the other end of I can meet you for lunch, only to get blown off when a different flavor comes along. How you do ANYTHING is how you do EVERYTHING (T. Harv Eker).
Since awareness is the first step toward making a change, I'm asking you just to notice when you say I can. How often does something throw you off track? How often when you say I can to you follow through?
Want to kick it up a notch? Turn your I can into I will. It's possible you'll be another example of success and achievement that Ted Engstrom spoke of in his book noted above.
I will see you in the winner's circle!
