Have You Taken an Energy Inventory?

Time is the commodity that seems to be in demand from all of us these days. How many times have we said, "I didn't have time to...?"

Our energy affects how efficiently our time is being used. Now, I'm not talking about your 'get plenty of sleep, take your vitamins, exercise and eat right' kind of energy. I'm talking about your mental energy.

When you say I just didn't have time to work on my business last week, think back to what was occupying your mind. Were you spending your mental energy thinking about how to deal with a difficult employee issue? Were you worried you might not receive some product in time for a big order? Were you concerned your biggest client might decide to go elsewhere?

Those are all legitimate issues in a business. But, your mother was right. Worrying about them does nothing to resolve them. In fact, not only does it not resolve the issue, it prevents you from doing the really important things like working on your business.

Issues that you worry about sap your energy. Your thoughts may be occupied with how to deal with a problem employee - so much so, you have no energy left for creative ways to market your products and services.

For the sake of your energy inventory, you simply have to get off the fence and deal with the employee issue or decide it's not an issue worth spending any of your energy on.

Your time is much too valuable not to be spent at peak performance with all of your energy stores available for working on your business.

Whatever your energy drains, recognizing them as such is Step 1 (your mother did know what she was talking about) and dealing with them so that your energy can be directed toward productive time working on your business is Step 2.

There are people who would benefit from the value your business delivers - your cashflow would benefit from delivering that value to new clients. Do us all a favor! Use your mental energy inventory in ways that propel your business forward so that you can deliver that value.
