Are You In Sync?
While attending a national conference, I had the opportunity to start each day in a workout with WNBA players and trainers. We had some rather tight quarters for our workout, which, if you've been in a crowded session like that, you know it works only if everyone is in sync.
I recall a particular moment when everyone was in sync with the exception of one person. This is a great strategy if you want to get noticed, but not such a good strategy if you need to function as part of a team.
Following the crowd is not what most entrepreneurs do well. However, getting your team in sync is ultra important to the success of your business.
One thing successful business owners regularly do to keep their team in sync is a team huddle. Team huddles can take multiple forms - in person, by teleconference, ten minutes or an hour, stand up or sit down. The important thing is the huddle. Everyone is on the same page, running the same play, heading towards a common goal.
Most successful companies find that weekly staff meetings keep their team communicating and in sync. These meetings are sacred. Nothing throws these meetings off schedule. If your normal staff meeting is on a Monday and it's a holiday, then Tuesday you'll be having a staff meeting. If you don't think it's important, your staff won't either.
What should be covered in a staff meeting? The agenda for my Monday morning staff meetings covers:
- Upcoming Deadlines (this week and next)
- What's on this week's schedule
- Upcoming Opportunities
- I Need Help With _______
I love the Monday morning huddle. It gets you and your team in sync, pumped up for the week ahead and heading toward a common goal.
