Do Not Open Until Next Year!

Are you one of those people who become even more intrigued when you see a label on a package that says "Do NOT OPEN until..."?

If you want to get a jump on making the most of 2010, this tip is for you.  This time of year we use lots of lists...

  • Our list for Santa
  • A shopping list for the ingredients of our favorite fudge recipe

Have you ever written down your goals?  Did you put them in a special folder labeled "Goals for 20xx?"  Were you diligent about filing that folder in the 'Planning' section of your file cabinet?  (Ok, so maybe you weren't diligent, but you know that file is there somewhere!)  When did you last review those goals?

For many of us, we review our goals perhaps once a year.  Come January of the next year, the buzz about setting goals rises to our level of consciousness again and we go to the 'Planning' section of the file cabinet.  We thumb through the file folders and discover to our amazement, there's a folder labeled "Goals for 20xx," the year just ended.  Curious, we pull out that folder, read through the contents in dismay, since few if any of the goals have actually been accomplished, and most are lacking even a list of the action steps to be taken to accomplish those goals.
I've been there myself.  Honestly, if I didn't look at the goals I've made, I'd either forget them completely or only have a vague sense of heading in the direction of that goal.  Post-it® notes are great because they catch our attention for "urgent" issues.  How then, do we catch our attention for "IMPORTANT" issues - like achieving our goals?

I am very good at being busy with 'stuff.'  However, achieving my goals eluded me until I found a way to focus daily on my goals.  No, I didn't figure it out overnight, but once I found a way to focus on my goals, it was rather simple.

I'm happy to share my Goal Planning Template that I've used to focus on my goals.  It's part of the 7 Success Steps to Take Action Now - a 7 day course that's completely complimentary - but what a fantastic way to start the new year!
